Preparing for Easter

18 Mar 2013

Spring is thought to be upon us and fingers crossed it will be soon, with that another Sizewell outage is starting so we must not forget to say a big hello again to all our international friends. Whilst eagerly awaiting the sun we have been busy planning for the busy year ahead, but hopefully a couple dry of days will allow us to paint our famous benches in hope for fine weather over the holidays. Easter is nearly here and we have plenty in store, starting on Good Friday is the annual Beach clean, Bill Crow and his crew will be ready and waiting in the Dolphin garden at 10:30 with equipment, coffee and captains orders. Followed by the prize giving for the "best find" on the beach with be cheese and wine. Saturday night we will have our Easter Draw so don't miss out, tickets will be on sale all week. We will be doing our Easter Egg hunt Easter Sunday from 10:00, meet in front of the village store. It was such success last year with everyone of  all ages enjoying themselves that we couldn't resist doing it again. Bookings are already filling up for Easter Sunday Roast and Crumble so don't forget to book your spot. An important date, not to be forgotten date for the diary is August 3rd our Village Fete, preparations are beginning and we can't wait to build on last year.   David

26 Feb 2013

26 Feb 2013

We are already into February and it is still bitterly cold. Traditionally the first two months of the year are quiet so all of us in The Dolphin have been taking some well deserved time off. Don't let that fool you, the rest of us have been planning for the year ahead. With spring just around the corner Steve and I are looking forward to    getting the garden ready for the sunshine (fingers crossed) and we have a few well used bird feeder up now too. The big fat quiz on 1st of Feb was a great success I never thought we could fit that many people in our restaurant and the booking kept coming in. I'm very  sorry for those who missed out, it just gives us an excuse to do another one.  Thanks to everyone who help with the coffee morning,  so many delicious cakes and we raised £326.00 for Aldringham church so a big thank you to everyone who came along to support.  16th February   we are launching our new range of pies,  every Saturday a new selection of pies will be available for £6.95 and back by popular on the 1st march is Bingo night and Haddock and Chips, so please remember to book early! 10th March is Mothers Day and we are already taking bookings and we always look forward to a busy Sunday  David

11 Feb 2013

A Happy New Year to all and I hope like us that you all had a great festive season and feeling strong enough to last the winter. We had a fantastic time, good to see so many families coming together and creating a lively atmosphere to warm us all up. A big thanks to all who popped into see us, joining in where possible, Steve's Christmas draw was as popular as ever and we are proud to have raised £196.00 for a local Down's Syndrome Support group. The Village party again was a success and great to have   everyone from the village under one roof swapping gifts and tales. Carole's Christmas club went down well and I hear she's already started planning for the next one! With February already fast approaching we are wasting no time in coming up with events to keep us occupied we have a QUIZ planned on the 1st February (brains will be tested by Val and Dave) and another BINGO night on the 1st March .  Steve and Keith are planning some great guest ales on the bar and Chris and the guys in the kitchen are coming up with some warming dishes for our prix fixe menu but even more exciting, starting from Saturday the 16th February we will be launching our own selection of Pies . Every Saturday from then on our Pies wil feature on our menu and be available in the village store. Finally Thorpeness is celebrating 100 years. To mark the occasion at the Dolphin we will be doing a number of centenary themed events and recording Thorpeness as we know it, in a unique way for future generations to see. (Watch this space to see how we all can be involved) So I hope to see you all very soon .
